Silversea has taken delivery of Silver Ray, the second cruise ship in the innovative Nova class, from MEYER WERFT. On board the Silver Ray in Eemshaven on May 14, Jason Liberty, President and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group, celebrated the official handover of the ship with Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea, Bernard Meyer, Chairman of the MEYER Group, and Bernd Eikens, CEO of the MEYER Group, executives from MEYER WERFT and the Royal Caribbean Group as well as Captain Alessandro Zanello. The traditional flag change also took place during the delivery ceremony.
Silversea's Nova class represents a new kind of luxury at sea and, with its asymmetrical design and 4,000 square meters of glass surface, offers unparalleled openness to its surroundings. Silver Ray, along with her sister ship Silver Nova, is one of the most energy-efficient ultra-luxury and expedition cruise ships ever built and represents an important milestone in Royal Caribbean Group's journey to reduce emissions and carbon intensity. Silver Ray, which sets sail on her maiden voyage from Lisbon on June 15, will spend her first season in the Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic to the Americas in December 2024.
"We are delighted to take delivery of Silver Ray, Royal Caribbean Group's newest ultra-luxury and expedition ship," said Liberty. "Providing the best vacation experiences in a responsible way is what drives everything we do. We are fortunate to have the best people working together to create unforgettable experiences for our guests. This includes the team at Meyer Werft, whose partnership has enabled us to keep pushing the boundaries."
"Silver Ray, the second ship in our innovative Nova Class alongside sister ship Silver Nova, beautifully embodies Royal Caribbean Group's vision for the future of innovative ultra-luxury and expedition cruising," said Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea. "Silver Ray is not only one of the most energy-efficient ships ever built, but also a groundbreaking, outward-facing ship concept that will allow our guests greater access to the incredible destinations we visit. As for firsts, I am honored that my first delivery as President of Silversea will be to welcome Silver Ray to our fleet alongside Jason, my colleagues at Royal Caribbean Group and the wonderful team at Meyer Werft. I can't wait for our guests to experience all that this remarkable ship has to offer."
"The delivery of Silver Ray, two days ahead of schedule, is an important milestone for us," said Bernd Eikens, CEO of Meyer Group. "The entire team at Meyer Werft has worked hard with our partners to bring this ship to life, and today we have delivered another great ship to Silversea."
The innovative design of the Nova Class ships immerses guests in their destinations from almost every seat and suite, offering sweeping views at every turn. The redesigned pool decks overlooking the water on the starboard side and the all-new outdoor spaces - the Dusk Bar and Marquee - emphasize the unique openness to the destination. Silver Nova and Silver Ray are among the most spacious cruise ships ever built. They have a room-to-guest ratio of 75 GT per guest and offer one of the most personalized levels of service at sea with a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.3, including butler service for all suites. The largest selection of bars, restaurants and lounges in ultra-luxury cruising, Otium, the line's Roman-inspired wellness program, and the innovative Sea and Land Taste (S.A.L.T.) culinary program further enhance the onboard experience.
After the Silver Ray was transferred around 40 km down the Ems from the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg at the end of April, it completed its technical and nautical sea trials in the North Sea until May 8 - under the supervision of Captain Alessandro Zanello, the shipyard's captain, and experienced pilots on site.
